This is a playtest release, designed for folks to try and, hopefully, give feedback on.

The system itself is heavily influenced by RuneQuest, Dragonbane, and The One Ring, although there are little bits of lots of games throughout. DragonRune is and attempt at "medium simulation," or what Trevor Duvall (of Me, Myself, and Die! on YouTube) calls a Sim-Lite game. The goal is to keep the "realistic," grounded feel common in "crunchy" systems like Mythras or RuneQuest while minimizing or removing as much of the math and bookkeeping as possible. The result is a shockingly fast and simple game that can appeal to players and game moderators from across the gaming spectrum, using only a single roll of 2d10 to determine if an attack hits, the damage, and the hit-location.

DragonRune is a universal system for play in any type of setting. For now, however, the rules are geared toward fantasy play, with some light support for modern or sci-fi use. The system is growing more robust as I continue to playtest it, and will see more updates.

  • v2 Update: Refined many of the rules, including a total overhaul on the dice system. Only d10s are used now! Additionally, the Herbalism magic system is also included.
  • v3 Update: Further refinement on the core systems, removing the HP-like Endurance system, moving to a system more like Dominion Rules, in which wounds are represented as penalties to actions. The equipment section has been updated and now includes  equipment for all time periods (still needs explosives). Removed the magic rules for now, as the Herbalism is not good and the others need heavy tweaking. Will hopefully have a V4 by the end of the year.

Just gave it a quick read-through, but this looks very nice! As a fan of the RuneQuest system in theory more than in practice, I appreciate the more modern design aspects of Dragonbane in there whilst still feeling like its own thing. Love me some 2d10, the effect dice is nice as well. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes!

Quick note: the cheat-sheet pdf says that exceptional failures during negotiations increase patience, but that should be resistance I believe.
